WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT CHILDREN?

Children are the gift from
God that must be kept and educated as good as possible. All children are unique and that they need to be loved and
respected for their differences. They are mandate that should be managed, treated, and
taught well. Childhood is our past phase that we have encountered. It is our job to detect and encourage
the positive attributes in each one. Observing the children’s character, attitude and world will be
interesting since they are a unique creature that always make adult people some
time are not aware who the children are.
They are unique because
they have some typical characters and attitudes as follows:
Ø They learn
easily from what they see and hear
Children are easy to learn
everything, they can learn easily from what they have seen and heard. It is
because they are eager to know everything and so curios about anything. Their
brain also is still empty and fresh. It is like an empty bottle, which is easy
to pour any water into it. E.g. children will be easy to learn any activities
after they have seen it, and they will be easier to sing a song after they have
heard it.
Ø They tend to
have relatively short span attentions
Children will pay close
attention deeply with what attracted them. They will fully enjoy and then
forget anything except with what thing being seen, but it is no longer. They
have a relatively span attention to an object. They are likely to be bored. The
thing will be soon boring for them. E.g. they will deeply pay close attention
to an object for a short span of time and then leave it.
In this respect, we should
spend it to focus them in useful activities.
Ø They want to
try thing continuously, they have exploratory image.
Children always try
something new for them; they will continuously explore and elaborate the
objects that interest them. E.g. If they
get a new toy, they will explore and elaborate it to know everything in it.
Ø They are
unique in their skill
Children have unique
skills. Such as they are easy to remember the thing, they have strong memory.
They are also easy to be managed and educated. Hereby, learning in the
childhood is like curving on the stone.
Ø They use play
as a mode for learning
By playing with materials and
equipment, children are able to find out how things work. They may wish to play games purely for
fun. We need to consider
which games to use, when to use them, how to link them up with our objectives.
We should make them as convenient as possible when they are learning something.
Ø They learn
with real and concrete object
Children will learn with
real and concrete object. By using their imagination for instance they consider
a matched box as if it is a car or a bolster as if it is a doll. They imagine
everything as if it is real for them.
Ø Rhymes make
things easier for them to remember because their auditory pattern is strong
The use of traditional
songs, stories and nursery rhymes in teaching children can create an excellent
learning experience for them. It is because they have strong auditory pattern.
Having conceived these
characteristics, then I can take some benefits as follows:
1. We hope that
we can teach children well
2. We are able to
determine which suitable program or activities for children
3. We can treat
them considering their psychology, physical,
emotional, social, and cognitive.
4. We are aware
that children are not miniature of adult but they have their own world.
5. we will be
wiser in facing and treating the children
